US CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY IMPROVEMENT ACT OF 2008 (CPSIA)

The Consumer Product Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008 was implemented on 14 August. The act reauthorizes the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for 2010-2014 and expands the Commission’s role in ensuring the safety of consumer products, especially those designed for children. The CPSIA restricts the amount of certain chemicals in children’s products and adds testing and tracking requirements for children’s products. The aim of this act is to protect the American public from unreasonable risks of injury and death posed by consumer products and is in response to a wave of recalls of “toxic toys” and other products.
