THE NEW DEFINITION FOR CASHMERE


Cashmere was previously defined as hair or fleece from genuine cashmere goats.Additional diameter measurements have been added to the definition to protect the interest of consumers in the pursuit of premium quality out of this noble animal fiber.

SGS has an excellent reputation in Cashmere testing services and is approved by CCMI (The Cashmere and Camel Hair Manufacturers Institute). CCMI was formed in 1984 as an international trade association representing the interests of producers and manufacturers of camel hair and cashmere fiber in yarn, fabric and garments produced worldwide. It is also the leading authority on testing procedures for identification of cashmere. SGS has participated CCMI correlation trials and has obtained consistently good and qualifying results.

SGS Cashmere Labs

SGS currently has three specialty fiber labs in Leicester (UK), Hong Kong and Shanghai (China) has granted the CCMI accreditation and provide the cashmere testing service.

SGS cashmere laboratories use the following characterized techniques for identification.

  • Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
  • Optical Microscope used for blend analysis
  • Computerized Imaging System for Optical Microscope
